Schedule and Standards: February 7th 10:30 AM Field Study Fun: Children will visit stations around the garden outside the Center to look for evidence of wildlife and to find some common plants. Each child will create a nature journal to keep (after March class), which they will fill with their observations. Meets standards (Kindergarten & 1st Grade): LAFS.K12.W.3.7; LAFS.K.SL.2.5; LAFS.K12.W.3.7; SC.K.L.14.3; SC.K.N.1.3; LAFS.1.SL.2.5 March 7th 10:30 AM Wildlife Water Safari: Children will use their nature journal made last class to explore how wildlife uses water. Children will get to view different animals from different water bodies around Chinsegut and take a “safari” hike to May’s Prairie. Hike approximately a half mile in total. Meets standards (Kindergarten & 1st Grade): LAFS.K12.W.3.7; MU.K.F.1.1; SS.K.G.3.2; MU.1.F.1.1; SC.1.E.5.3; VA.K.C.1.1 April 4th 10:30 AM Looking at Leaves: Children will practice their observation skills by looking at leaves. This class also includes a leaf printing craft. Program will include owl pellet dissection and a look at owl artifacts. In this program children will get to collect live bugs and decide what role they play in maintaining the environment based on their characteristics.
